The 411 on the Flat Meredith Project

Here's the story...Meredith's 4th grade class started a Flat Person Project in November. They had to draw themselves, & write a letter asking one person to take a photo of the Flat Person. Basically they reviewed letter writing and it was a fun project. It's like the character Flat Stanley but it's Flat Meredith. This is a common student project & some people have heard of Flat Stanley (book character) or they've taken part in someone's project.

Meredith chose to send Flat Meredith to her grandpa in Florida. She wanted her flat self's photo taken on the beach because that's one of Meredith's favorite places to visit.

Then she thought about sending Flat Meredith to a celebrity to see of they would participate. First she thought about sending Flat Meredith to Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas. Then her dad came up with a great idea. How about Jason Sudeikis from SNL (Saturday Night Live). Meredith is a big fan of SNL and Jason Sudekis graduated from Meredith's school. Jason S. is the guy that does an impression of Joe Biden.

I happen to know a guy that went to the same high school as Jason Sudeikis. And the guy I know is friends with another guy that still talks to Jason Sudeikis. I asked my contact if he thought Jason S. would participate if we sent Flat Meredith to New York. He contacted me the next day and said Jason S. would be in town for Thanksgiving and the mutual friend offered to take Flat Meredith to Jason S. for a photo.

So Meredith sent a note along with Flat Meredith to Jason S...and some photos of her previous Halloween costume. The previous Halloween, Meredith went as Tina Fey, as Sarah Palin. Meredith is interested in politics and watched the presidential and vice-presidential elections, along with the political SNL skits.

So Jason Sudeikis took the photo and he really liked the Halloween photos. Turns out he liked them so much he took photos with his iphone and emailed them to Tina Fey. For those of you that aren't familiar Tina Fey used to be on SNL...she did a hilarious impression of Sarah Palin. She now has her own show on NBC called 30 Rock.

I emailed the photo of Flat Meredith and Jason S. to some family and friends. Before we knew it the Flat Meredith Project snowballed. A bunch of people have offered to take Meredith to all sorts of places....she's gone international. Several copies of the original have been laminated and are now floating around the world. The project has gotten so big we decided to scrap book all the cool photos & also create a blog so we can share the photos of Flat Meredith's travels.

So as we have time and acquire photos we'll add them to the blog.
